Prefixes vs. Suffixes...

It has been about a month since my last post and a lot has changed. Unlike most people I have spent my life with a suffix, John Kaywood McFee III, the third. It has served me well and I didn't have to go to medical school to get it. Just a born right that was passed on to me from my mother and father. Having said that I have never had a prefix that wasn't given solely out of manners, Mr. John McFee, or being an imaginary knight, Sir John McFee the gallant, see there I had a prefix and suffix only the coolest(or nerdiest) get to have both and since my last post I have achieved both through no act of my own other than being the best damn big brother ever. You can call me Uncle John Kaywood McFee III. That's right UNCLE of two beautiful twin baby girls that are perfect and wonderful and can be seen on the most recent post of my amazing wife. It could not have been a more perfect time for them to come. Their birthday is only two days before their uncle's who by the way turned 27 on September 16th. My wife and I, thanks to her new found off weekends, traveled up on Sunday to see them on their first day of life. I didn't get to hold them but I did get to touch and see them, they had to go to neonatal ICU but just for observation.

I also spent my first week with the crew all to myself on night shift this past week. It was a blast and a real eye-opener. I was able to give some support as well as notify my boss of a disaster thanks to the great crew I was working with. It really is neat how a group of guys all of them older than me, some of them older than my dad, can work with me and teach me and still allow me to be the manager. It is a delicate balance which isn't always easy especially when you may be doing the job that one of the guys wants or they just have an innate hatred/fear for the college degree you have and they don't. But thankfully even those guys seem to be warming up to me as well showing me where I can improve and learn new things. I know this may not make sense but it's an awesome opportunity that I have been able to "practice", I just hope they let me do it full time (that's what she said).

Quantum of Solace - Ian Fleming (4 out of 5) Collection of about 10 short stories that Fleming wrote and are collected here. Some are good some aren't but they all tell a little bit about the vodka martini drinker that we all know and love. Also the title from the new movie was taken from one of the short stories.

The Reason for God : Belief in an Age of Skepticism - Joseph Keller(Amazing) This book is a 20th centuries Mere Christianity. Keller tackles the biggest questions skeptics have about God and also the biggest reasons for faith for people that are already Christians. Outstanding.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil - John Berendt (5 out of 5) A great book written about Savannah, GA by a New York Magazine journalist who came south to getaway and got wrapped up in and old towns mysteries including a real murder by one of his new friends in town. The author winds up spending a decade traveling to and from Savannah and learning a lot about the rich, the poor, the dead, the cross dressing stripper named Chablis and even a hoodoo witch.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns(TPB) - Frank Miller (5 out of 5) I was told it was one of the greatest Batman story arcs of all time and it didn't disappoint. It had Frank Miller's trademark art and gritty realism. It is set 10 years after Batman's retirement when a crime wave causes him to have to put back on the cape and cowl.

Also War Damn Eagle!
